I'm a Mom | Wait, I Run A Business | Ohp, I'm a Mom Again | The Hats We Wear as Business-Owner-Moms

Being a mom (or dad!) and a business owner

I think I got 4 hours of sleep last night ... we have a 2 year old daughter and a 4 year old son and last night our daughter wanted to skip sleep and have a party with the moon ... but don't you worry, she still woke up to see the sun come up (please tell me why it's always that combo and not the *she slept in until noon* combo!?)  ... clearly not a great start to today ... in fact I apologize in advance for any spelling errors or what I fear is going to happen: that this post will have absolutely NO point at all - just a bunch of ramblings of a tired mom who is obsessed with blogging ;) ... moving along towards no point ...

My business is not a fun hobby that I do when I feel like it ... if I don't make money, our family doesn't survive.  We can't live off of what my husband makes alone.  So the juggle of: do I focus on being a mom or do I focus on making money feels like I am juggling knives << which one is going to flip over and slice my hand off!!??  Too much??

Do you (my fabulous reader) have kids at home and run a business?  If your answer to that question started with a 'yep' or a 'yes' or a 'yeah' or an 'uhuh' then this scenario might sound familiar:  I usually wake up around 5:30 am after getting an average of 6 hours of sleep ... Our kids typically wake up at 6:00 which gives me *just* enough time to take a quick shower and rush to put on whatever is most convenient to wear while making breakfast.  After Grayson and Hadley are sitting down happily with a cartoon, I start the daily juggle which goes something like this:  check my inbox, write back the most time sensitive emails, flip the french toast, tweet something brilliant(?) at my followers, pour coffee, change a diaper, check on the social media feeds and following for the accounts I help run, wipe a dirty face, start a new blog post for The Editor's Touch, play cars down the hall of our house, sing 'the eensey weensy spider', log into Pinterest as my clients and Pin from their websites, etc, etc, etc ... and by this time, it's usually 9:00 am.

I think the hardest part about being a working stay at home mom is that I feel like I am always letting somebody down.  If I am having an awesome work day when things are getting done and everything is happening nicely, I feel guilty about not spending enough time with Grayson and Hadley.  Then, if I am having a day when Grayson and Hadley are happy and we're playing and work takes a back-burner, I know I am letting a client down.  But:

>> balance is the key ... if only they sold those keys at Home Depot ... <<

All in all, being a business owner who is also a stay at home mom is an honor that I don't take lightly ... sacrifices are made in my family life so that I am able to do this for my profession and I am thankful every day to my husband, Clint and our two darling children that I am able to do this.  I am also so thankful to you, the readers of this blog, who make what I do, well, what I do!!

As I feared: really no point to this post ... but if you are a mom who is running a business and you felt like you weren't alone, then I've done my job today :)  And if you read this and were like:

>> That's great, Heather ... and I'm really happy for you and your french toast flipping and your family life ... but where is the website advice!!?? <<

... then below are a few links for you ;)

Happy Friday, all!!
